Premursa, the constructor and promoter of the Paramount theme park in Alhama de Murcia, have purchased another tract of land this morning. This had been delayed from last month due to various issues with documentation but the decision was taken to purchase the bulk of the land needed whilst work continues to resolve the issues relating to the remaining 550,000 square metres.
1,031,077 square metres of land was purchased today (07/03/2012) at a cost of 10,341,708 euros. Jesús Samper, president of Premursa, has stated this will enable the construction of the park to proceed to inauguration by 2015. They plan to lay the first stone of construction within the next few months which will provide much needed work for the region of Murcia.
It's a long way off completion, but a Paramount Pictures-branded theme park is set to open in Murcia in 2015. The plan for the park was announced last week, revealing that zones will be themed on Paramount movies, such as Star Trek and Mission Impossible, on a site between Mazarrón and Alhama de Murcia, 20 minutes from the beach and the marina resort of Puerto de Mazarrón and just 10 minutes from our Villaquest S.L office in Camposol. At least five hotels will be built on site, along with shopping malls, bars, clubs and an auditorium that will take 15,000 people. Over one billion euros is to be invested in the park and will employ over 10,000 people over the course of construction.
The site is an ideal location as Murcia has about 300 days of sunshine a year -- important for the vitality of any theme park. It is also close to air and ground transportation with the new roads already in operation and, 20 minutes away, the new International airport at Corvera due to open at the end of 2011.
Plans revealed that the park will use the most advanced technology with emphasis on special effects for the themed areas including `War of the Worlds´ modelled after the recent films. By 2020 it is estimated the theme park will attract five million visitors per year and Jesus Samper, president of the company responsible for the project, describes it as the `envy of Europe´. In one area entitled `City of Adventure´ there will be a huge reproduction of the ocean liner Titanic and a roller coaster based on the film `The Italian Job´. Another area will feature a water ride themed a trip down the Congo river plus a recreation of the Crypt from Tomb Raider – to mention just a few of the proposed attractions. Younger members are not forgotten with the Woodland Fantasy area featuring magic workshop and adventures based on the Spiderwick Chronicles.
